Dyspareunia Painful Intercourse For Women |
| Excruciating pain, before, during and after the intercourse may be an embarrassing situation but one does not need to suffer silently! Though sex can be painful for both the sexes, the symptom has been exclusively reported by women. It can be viewed as a physical or a psychological disorder, though, the latter view is outdated now.
The consistent genital pain is known as dyspareunia and almost one third of the women go through it at some point in their life. Though discussion may be uncomfortable, the treatments are readily available. Dyspareunia treatment for painful intercourse may include medication, therapy or lifestyle changes. An integrated, multifaceted treatment approach is recommended by the researchers for the specific underlying cause.
There can be many causes to painful intercourse and they may be deep thrusting against cervix resulting in cystitis, uterine fibroids, uterine prolapse, irritable bowel syndrome, endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease. Experiencing pain during entry may be caused by a reaction to birth control, trauma to the genital region, improper lubrication or improper hygiene and conditions like vestibulitis, vaginusmus or infection. Emotional factors may also include stress, relationship issues or past instances of sexual abuse.
The symptoms are excruciating pain during intercourse, during penetration and while inserting a tampon, periodic pain in different situations, pain may occur due to multiple sex partners, minor pain during act of deep thrusting or aching or burning pain.
Dyspareunia treatment may take place therapeutically or medically. It generally depends on the specific cause of pain. Change i9n medication is recommended if it is known to cause lubrication problems. With postmenopausal women, inadequate lubrication results from low estrogen levels and it can be treated with a prescription tablet, cream or flexible vaginal ring. Estrogen supplements can replace hormone levels for the sexually active post menopause. Body washes and douches leading to dryness and destroying natural lubrication should be avoided. If the cause is infection, a shot of painkillers or antibiotics may help. Vaginal tightness may be treated by exercises to dilate the vaginas opening starting with a small device and working up to penis-sized device to reduce the pain and fear.
Therapeutically, vaginal relaxation methods are taught like pelvic floor exercises and others to decrease pain with intercourse, also known as desensitization therapy. Sex counseling is important if intimacy avoided due to painful intercourse and sex therapists can help resolve negative emotional response to sexual stimulation by improving partner communication. Sexual routine could be asked to change like switching positions, avoiding artificial lubrication, extending foreplay or communicating the likes and dislikes.
Though this is a sensitive issue, one can always find medical services and medical products online for dyspareunia treatment. | Author Info: Dyspareunia is painful sexual intercourse, due to medical or psychological causes.Dyspareunia treatment Also, learn about other Top Medical Videos.
