Trends On Modern Beds For 2011 And Environmental Responsibility |
| Today, many designers feel the pressure in their environmental responsibility to be able to produce furniture created by eco-friendly materials while being multifunctional. Modern beds can come from a variety of materials but for the most part they come from wood. Wood beds were one of the very first furniture ever created by our primitive forefathers and until now, it still proves to be very popular in interior design. This is due to a variety of reasons.
A wooden bed made of oak is a piece of furniture that can stand the test of time. Oak is a hardwood that is a worthy investment because it has proven to be a very sturdy and durable material. There are generally two kinds of oak furniture, red oak and white oak. The choice in furniture depends entirely on consumer preference. Since oak can last for many years, it is considered an eco-friendly material because you only need to purchase a piece or set of oak furniture once in a lifetime.
Pine is another popular wood that is commonly used for furniture. Though a softwood and not as durable as oak, it can still be durable enough to last years of wear and tear with proper care. It is a highly preferred environmental friendly material since pine is a fast-growing tree.
Needless, to say, furniture made from trees requires little effort to transform into a piece of craftsmanship without the need for mechanisms that emit toxic waste into the environment, like plastic. Plus, furniture manufacturers have taken environmental responsibility very seriously, such that they use trees grown in managed plantations. The days of cutting down trees from anywhere are almost over now. People have become more responsible mainly because to experience a disaster first hand is a life changing one. Technology also helps to inform people of the current state of the environment as we progress year by year.
The need for modular and multifunctional furniture has also been in demand for some time now. This is mainly because living quarters nowadays are just not houses anymore. There are condominiums, lofts and apartments sprouting everywhere to respond to the increasing population. In such small spaces, the need for furniture that can serve dual or multiple purposes has become a necessity. For instance, platform bed frames can be built with multiple drawers for bed and linen storage while its foot end can serve as a make shift sofa for those who want to watch television closer to the unit without having to purchase a separate divan to serve this sole purpose. Some furniture has gone to an extreme length by being turned into a table during day time and a bed during the evening. You may also see double decked bunk beds that have a fitted study area underneath that helps save space. There are also sofas that can be turned into a bed during night time. Consoles and armoires are now even more functional with more drawers and storage.
Not only is a wooden bed created by highly environmental friendly materials but it also can be created into another great piece of furniture if an owner decides to reuse the components, into shelving, for example, when the bed is replaced. This cannot be achieved by other materials such as metal or marble. For these materials, beds can be passed on through the pre owned market or even freecycled.
Trends in 2011 still prove that purchases of wood beds with a darker or lighter finish in a very clean and very contemporary style are still popular. Modern beds today may not have changed much for the past few years but what matters is that they are one of the ways the world might become greener, in terms of the raw materials used and recycling of unwanted beds.
