Why Office Partitioning Suits Any Type of Office and Situation |
| For decades, the idea of office renovation had a sense of permanency. So, builders were called in to construct dividing walls that would last. The idea that they might one day need to be moved just did not come into the equation. Things have changed quite a bit in recent years, so much so that the cutting edge idea of the early 1970s of using office partitioning that could be relocated whenever desired, has now become the norm.
The chief reason for the popularity of such partitioning today is flexibility, but variety is also a key factor as partitioning for practically every type of office and every need are now available. The functional advantage with demountable partitioning means that an office layout can be shaped in an almost unlimited number of ways. Whether it is made of solid or more contemporary glass panels is of little concern, as both offer choice, creative freedom and style.
This variety of choice is not just aesthetic, it is also in structure and use. The walls can be fire resistant and soundproofed to add safety and promote a sense of personal space or privacy. One of the drawbacks with temporary walls had always been that they regularly failed to meet the necessary safety regulations in the workplace, which meant there were specific areas where they could not be used.
With the inclusion of fire safety features, such as more resistant materials like gypsum panels and flame resistant seals, these demountable walls may provide as much as three hours resistance to fire. When a whole partitioning system provides that level of protection, it means a higher level of reliability on the structure. Partitioning now has a wider scope of use, but more importantly, play their part in providing greater safety in the workplace.
There is also no quality lost with demountable walls when it comes to sound and reducing the amount of noise in a newly constructed meeting room or board room. This is because soundproofing insulation mats are installed on the interior of the wall panels. This allows for the minimum level of disruption from activities outside the room, while also ensuring a high level of privacy for the meeting that is going on inside.
With partitions that are made of glass, either in panels or full length single sheets, the walls can be just as structurally impressive but have the added value of style. Increasingly, glass is being chosen so as to enhance the appearance of the work place, with a sense of open space maintained and less hindrance to the effects of natural light serving to make the workplace atmosphere more positive.
For the executive, a glass office can retain a sense of privacy thanks to glass manifestation and the use of blinds. Glass manifestation refers to the use of film on the glass to obscure the quality of vision through the pane, and there is an almost endless number of design options.
Blinds, of course, are the most traditional option and allows the occupant to adjust their view according to their needs. A meeting may prompt the blinds to be pulled closed, with the blinds then opened when the occupants are finished. Amongst the options available in glass, is the inclusion of window blinds inside the partitions themselves, between the sheets of glass in a double glazed panel.
Of course, the chief advantage with demountable partitioning is that it can be easily taken down and erected again elsewhere. This movability is dependent on the ceiling height not changing as the measurements are precise to ensure the whole structure fits securely. The wall panels fit inside a framework that is usually made of aluminium, which means that the whole structure is light and adds a minimal amount to the weight stress on the office floor.
It is true that an office must have its solid walls, of course, but the open space that those four walls house is now chiefly divided up by demountable partitioning that can be moved around almost at will. The choice of solid or glass panels, their resistance to fire and their insulation against unwanted noise, means that there is very little different between real and temporary walls anymore.
It is certainly true that developments in office partitioning have come quite some distance since they were first introduced to the world some 40 years ago, and the benefits are now surely greater than the inventors could have imagined possible. | Author Info: Kathryn Dawson writes articles about Applied Workplace, where you can find high quality office partitioning at competitive prices.
