Selection of a Data Recovery Company
(Reputation versus Price) Having worked in a photo studio all my life, my dream was to own a unit of my own some day. Finally, I set up a studio that was a culmination of years of effort. It enjoyed great client popularity. I had good photographers working in my unit and we had a growth oriented business. Quite unexpectedly one hot day, there was a small accident that soon developed into a rapid fire. The efficient fire personnel soon arrived, and their quick thinking saved the day. The fire gutted my papers, files and photographs strewn over the office. Computers that contained my business records were much damaged. We quickly removed the burnt and wet (water doused) hard drives and packed the still moist disks to send it to a reputed data recovery company. It was at this juncture, that I went into a dilemma. Scanning the internet, for a good data recovery company, I came across 100s of companies. Some offered very economical rates while others were backed by a strong reputation. Like any other customer I was tempted by the low rates charged by quite a few smaller companies. But, good reasoning dictated that I approach the strongly reputed big business units. For, ultimately I realised that, though my burnt hard disks were of no value, the data they contained was invaluable. My business, or in other words the success of my dream endeavour, was dependant on the professional skills of the data recovery officers. High Costs Vs Standardised Rates While browsing through the advertisements I noticed a few companies that charged standardised rates. These put me on an instant alert for; reputed companies do not quote the rates prior to examining the hard drive. They inspect the hard disk first, and later estimate recovery cost and possible data retrieval rates. They also function on the principle of ‘no data, no charges.’ Companies charging a fixed rate, undoubtedly use the DIY data recovery software. Using such software on my burnt hard drive would destroy the vital information of my company beyond recovery point. I was aware that a physically damaged hard drive has to be opened in a clean room for data retrieval. Invasive Recovery Very few data recovery companies have clean rooms. For, its construction and maintenance is highly expensive. If our hard drive were to be opened in an ordinary room, the magnetic platters would be contaminated and we would lose all hopes of recovering data from them. At times, it is also necessary to replace a few parts on the drive and though this increases the recovery costs we can be assured of qualitative data availability. Quality Assurance Only reputed data recovery companies have the requisite knowledge and infrastructure to replace the damaged parts on a hard drive. They replace the damaged parts, though it requires plenty of man hours of expertise so that complete data recovery becomes possible. Companies that charge low; retrieve partial or qualitatively poor data. Such companies hardly survive. Only companies that are in the field for long have to be approached for they have a vast experience. A Wide Range of Experience Each individual case is unique. Data recovery companies deal with varied cases of data loss and garner vast knowledge over the years. This contributes to their successful recovery rates. Their success rates can be verified, through the client testimonials given in their web site. Client Testimonial I would prefer handing my hard drives to a company that has satisfied Fortune 500 companies in its client list. The appreciation of such clients proves the professional capability of the company personnel. Their success rates are sure to be high. (Incidentally, I do not believe companies that advertise a 100% recovery for such high rates are not potentially possible.) With experts working on my hard drive I would have peace of mind, for these experts’ dexterity is enhanced by the technologically updated tools at their disposal. Constant Research Research and Development (R & D) is an incessant process that dictates the business survival of a data recovery company. Perpetual updating of their tools is necessary for the technological changes in a computer are occurring by leaps and bound. Well developed tools ensure recovery of the sensitive information the drives hold. Privacy Policy Only reputed companies follow a privacy policy. The recovered data is vital and sensitive for their clients and strict confidentiality has to be maintained. All these factors made me approach a reputed data recovery concern. And today, my business is flourishing once again.
