Medical School Personal Statements
Though the intention behind the statement might sound true, what really matters is the way in which the medical school aspirants convince the academic officers. Every year these officers might come across umpteen number of personal statements placed before them for their perusal. So it becomes necessary for the prospective medical students to attract the attention of officers with a first glimpse of their statements. Personal statement is the important part of the admission process through which the candidate could influence the officers. Only through a personal statement the candidates can sell themselves better and can also earn the goodwill of the admission officers. Let us examine some of the procedures in drafting a medical school personal statement which could sow hopes in the hearts of the candidates. If a candidate mentioned his or her involvement in the community-oriented services, it would, for sure, appeal to the admission officers. Generally, each and every doctor in the society serves the public in one way or another. Apart from making money through their profession, most of the doctors never fail to understand that they have a responsibility towards the society. However, actions alone are taken into account rather than the speech. Instead of preaching so much of their desire for the constructive developments of the society, it is always better to show the actions in which they are involved. Therefore, the prospective students must concentrate on their actions while drafting the personal statement. Nowadays, the medical school admission officers straightaway declare that they do not bother about the contents of the statement. This is because the candidates work meticulously to bring out the statement in such a way that it fulfils the expectations of the academic officers rather than honestly describing their own personality. Though the candidates can exercise their creativity in drafting the statement, they should keep in mind that it should not run over the facts. One should express his own qualities and values and elicit the principles that are precious to him. The ultimate goal of the candidates should not be to secure admission alone, but they have to present them honestly aiming for the seat. One should justify his suitability for the medical course. Generally, the youngsters do not make decisions about their career. They lead their student life without any clear-cut goals. If this is the case, it would be difficult for each and every student to figure out a unique reason for choosing the medical career, and may find it difficult to outshine from the rest of the applicants. So the applicant must be very careful in identifying a particular reason for choosing the course. That reason must be highly exceptional and should show the candidate’s insight and passion towards his career. As a part of the statement, they should mention their college experiences and their hard work in preparing for the medical profession. If the candidates are interested to describe their personal qualities, they should explain their experiences by way of proving, rather than asserting that they have those qualities. The best way to prove their qualification would not be the listing of all the attributes that they believe to have. They must put forth substantial evidence proving their aptitude and excellence and also the beliefs. A little bit of experience in the hospital would also be expected from the prospective students. It is highly important to measure the interest of the candidates. The major point which the candidate should put forth is that they can work well by holding their patience and also work in a clinical atmosphere. The candidate should also explain how they left something that they are very good at, simply to pursue their career as a doctor. For example, they might be good at dancing or singing, but in order to proceed with the medical profession, they might have sacrificed those pleasant things. The candidate should be well aware of the challenges and adversities one has to undergo in the medical profession. They should know how dedicated they need to be in their career in order to succeed. The candidates must relate all their experiences of the past with the future and should have a vision and mission towards their accomplishment of their goals. By quoting the various experiences of their life, they should try to convince that they will be sincere and committed in the chosen field.
